Our Story

"ÚĽUV - 70 Years of Support of Traditional Crafts in Slovakia"

The cross-sectional exhibition of ÚĽUV activities maps the development of the Centre for Folk Art Production to mark the seventieth anniversary. From the first field research at traditional craft sites of Slovakia, to "ÚĽUV" brand folk-art products, which emerged under the guidance of professional artists working at ÚĽUV, on to contemporary award-winning work of the competition Rings in Water that transform traditional Crafts into the author's design.


Hatchets in Folk Tradition in Slovakia

30.1. – 11. 4. 2015 at the ULUV gallery, Bratislava

The exhibition of a rich collection of hatchets, comes from the private collection of Jan Svetlik. It answers the questions of what is different between valaska and fokos, how is the valaska called in surroundings countries, when is the valaska is supposed to be sharp, or, for instance, why is one decorated while the other is not. Until 11. 4. 2015 you can find the hatchet of Juraj Janosik, the most famous Carpathian outlaw, in the ULUV gallery.
