Club Season

Operating under the Regional Crafts Centre of the Centre for Folk Art Production Bratislava (the “RCR ÚĽUV Bratislava”), Clubs of Craft Friends cover a type of activity that occupies free time of lecturers and participants who completed our workshops as well as craft enthusiasts interested in exchange of experience and preparation of collective presentations. Members of the clubs seek to meet their creative ambitions. Meanwhile, the ÚĽUV strive to encourage and support them in their creative work. Members differ in creative style, artistic ideas, content and stories. They use materials and techniques of their choice to transform them into unique works of art or utility products. Sometimes they do what they are familiar with and keep being traditional, or they cross boundaries to follow an own special way. Four craft clubs – Handspinning, Sporofa, Džarek and Painting on Glass Friends Club – present the selected works of their members at their collective exhibition Club Season (from 8 August until 12 October 2013) in the ÚĽUV Gallery.

Handspinning/Priadky is the club with the longest history of existence. Members have transformed their theoretical knowledge into reality by making their own laces following the original patterns. This year they chose three dimensional laces of birds inspired by paint-decorated birds by Katarína Brúderová from Vajnory. The Society of advanced fantasy (abbreviated in Slovak as SPOROFA) consists of untrained artists, makers (including those awarded the master of folk art production title), amateur creators constantly provoked by wood to do new artistic pieces. This year they present figurative works at the exhibition, namely the items inspired by motives from traditional wood carving such as work or religion. Tinkery club Džarek is also full of proactive and vigorous members. Members of the club have come to the exhibition with wire architecture, figurative and zoomorphic motives and jewelry that is also an integral part of the contemporary tinkery.

Several members of the Club of under-painting on glass friends also display their works at this collective exhibition. The pictures they produce are very diverse in topic. Under-painting on glass is a technique with very specific rules that must be adhered to. However, the technique is also open for author´s creative spirit.
