by Katarína Chruščová
In 2009, the second year was held of the children's fine art and handcraft competition In the country of crafts. The show is organised biennially. A total of 352 works on the following three themes were entered in the competition: Carver's craftsmanship, A Secret of a Wire Basket, and Woven and Knitted from Threads. The jury evaluated creative efforts within two age categories: of 8 – 11 year olds and 12 – 15 year olds. The jury proposed selecting 145 works for the second round from among which it rewarded 15 works with an award and 13 with honourable mention. The second-round works of the completion were presented in an exhibition that opened in Banská Bystrica in October 2009, the rerun of which will be made available to visitors in Bratislava from 5 November to 19 December 2009 at the ÚĽUV Design Studio. The solemn opening of the exhibition and the announcement of the competition's results took place on 8 October 2009.
