New ornament
by Adriena Pekárová
Three years ago and as a part of The Rooms for free project, the AFAD´s textile design studio in Bratislava established cooperation with several European textile schools. The students from the studio and from the Technical University in Liberec, the Czech Republic and the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź, Poland met in October 2008 at a joint workshop in Kremnica to learn about the bobbin lace making technology. Back at their schools, they transported the lace ornament into the contemporary textile design. What they achieved has been displayed in the Design Studio ÚĽUV from January 2009. The Polish students present carpets and jacquard fabrics, the Czech students display sublimation technique textiles and the Bratislava students use silk-screen printing technique.
