Boxes by Júlia Sabová
An overlap between individual types of arts became commonplace in the 20th Century, and textiles have also found their place within the free arts. One of the ways it managed to reach this was to liberate itself from the traditional use of textile fibre and replace it with less traditional materials or their combinations, entering from the 2-dimensional world to the three, and leaving its functional base. Textile, as the name for a certain type of art, has slowly been replaced with the notion of ‘soft art’. The textile paper objects created by Júlia Sabová must be viewed in this way. Handmade paper with a variety of structure is the favourite material of J. Sabová. These boxes, created in 2003, have the character of a personal diary or journal.
