Martin Mešša: Wood carving days in the Court of Crafts
Wood carving days in the Court of Crafts organized by the Centre for Folk Art Production (ÚLUV) in Bratislava from 17 to 22 June 2002 were focused on folk figural wood carving. From 2-meter lengths of fresh poplar wood, invited woodcarvers created sculptures with the aim of producing work that would be of interest to visitors, show the method of woodcarving, and were the popular topic of the author. Woodcarvers from Slovakia (Ján Palko, Ondrej Gadžor, Peter Zoricák, Ján Sakala, Teodor Lepen) and their Swiss guest Martin Stüssi, general secretary of the European Folk Art and Craft Federation, took part in the symposium. A specialist conference and the screening of films about wood carvers and woodcarving were accompanying events.
