Štefan Oriško: Slovak Ceramic Symposia
There are currently two ceramic symposia held in Slovakia: the older one in Lučenec having been held for 13 years, and the much younger in Beladice which has only been held three times. Both of these venues are very different because they are determined by local conditions. The region around Lučenec is rich in ceramic products, and several ceramic factories with varied focuses are already established. This all highlighted the fact that local materials are a challenge for artists. The other Slovak symposium in Beladice near Nitra offers an environment closer to that of studio conditions. Both symposia have become an important and required part of the Slovak ceramic scene.
