Miniature world
by Viera Kleinová
At the turn of 2000 and 2001, an exhibition entitled Textile Miniature – Tension took place in Liptovský Mikuláš and Bratislava. It presented the work of 17 textile artists. The first presentation of miniature artefacts took place in 1999. The main organizer of the exhibition is textile artist Jozef Bajus.
Many generations of artists showed their work at this exhibition. The scale of understanding the topic was wide and varied. In addition to textile, the artists also used paper, plastic and feathers. The repertoire of techniques used was also heterogeneous, ranging from the traditional – lace and weaving – to objects combining classical as well as modern techniques, natural and artificial materials. These artistic works confirm that even in utterly contemporary artistic work, tradition and craft still hold their place.
The next exhibition should be held in two years as biennale. In the future, we also hope for the participation of foreign artists.
