peknô.skIn the presence of representatives of the Town of Tampere, her Excellence the Ambassador of the Slovak republic in Finland Viera Štupáková and representatives of ÚĽUV Bratislava, a remarkable exhibition displaying works of contemporary craft and design from 45 authors from Slovakia opens on September 6, 2006 in Tampere under the title PEKNÔ.SK. Younger generation of crafters and professional visual artists as well as several students of design from Slovakia are presenting their works at the exhibition.

Following a welcoming approach of the Finnish crafts organisation TAITO, the Centre for Folk Art Production in Bratislava, Slovakia, has developed a concept of the exhibition travelling around 16 Finnish towns. After ten years of concentrated efforts aimed at promoting crafts and connecting them with design and organising several competitions and exhibitions with the same concept, contemporary and traditional Slovak crafts have enjoyed growing interest in Finland.

It is a wonderful opportunity for our country to present, through this exhibition, our applied arts and craft traditions in the country with extensive tradition in crafts and premium design. The Slovak exhibition in Finland displays works of product design, production of items for private interiors as well as jewellery and fashion.
During the next year, ÚĽUV will exhibit a selection of contemporary Finnish applied arts and crafts in its exhibition hall in Bratislava.
